Rupert Eben  Cartwright, Sr.
Rupert Eben Cartwright, Sr., 88, of Dawsonville passed away Friday April 13, 2018 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born December 23, 1929 to the late Eben and Liberta Cartwright in Flomaton, Alabama, he had a heart of gold and would go out of his way to help anyone and we know he is in Heaven making Jesus laugh!!! He will be dearly missed. Rupert was a member of the Florida State Guard 1947 and a decorated Corporal in U.S. Army who served during the Korean War from Feb. 1951 until his honorable discharge in Nov. 1952. He was a Communications expert and telephone lineman during the war, a proud member of Korean War Veterans of Georgia Inc. in Gainesville and received the Korean Service Medal in 2005.
A member of Juno Baptist Church in Dawsonville, Rupert had worked at the Scott’s Paper Mill in Alabama and also as a Carpenter, Tile setter and even did some mason work. He helped build the lodge at Amicalola Falls State Park in Dawsonville, worked on a church included in the movie "Six Pack", and Willeo Baptist Church in Roswell, Georgia. He loved animals, camping and sitting by a campfire anytime he could make one. A very clever inventor, he also enjoyed to mechanic, cook, fish, hunt and was a good farmer too. He enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts when his sons were younger. He was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Eugene Cartwright, brother, J.C. Cartwright, and sister, Vera McCrory.
Surviving are his wife of over 65 years, Mildred Catherine Haygood Cartwright of Dawsonville; children, Rupert Eben, Jr. and Leah Cartwright of Waleska; Vanessa and Roy Fouts, Adam Cartwright, Nathan and Patricia Cartwright, Lynda Grant and John Reid, all of Dawsonville; sisters, Lera Nell Skipper and Linda Leo Cartwright of Pensacola, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorial services will be held on Friday April 20, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dennis Bottoms and Pastor Roland Nelson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour.
