Barbara Ann Goodnight Wise, age 87 of Dawsonville, Georgia died Friday, November 3, 2023. She was born in Kannapolis, North Carolina, moved to Pennsylvania for 13 years and then moved to the Clearwater, Florida area for 40 years. She then relocated to her hometown of Kannapolis in 2014 and eventually moved to Georgia in 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband the Reverend Doctor Doyce Wise and son Jon Derek Wise.
Barbara was a co-owner of two women’s clothing boutiques in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. She was also employed in Florida as Executive Director of Bayview Gardens Retirement Community, owned by Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater. During her fourteen years as director, she was active in senior care organizations, serving on the board of the Florida Association of Homes for the Aging for twelve years, serving two of those years as President. During her tenure with the association she received the award for outstanding director in 1993. She also served as a delegate in the House of Representatives for the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging in Washington, DC. Upon retirement she served as Director of Senior Services at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Clearwater. Her career spanned twenty years of service to senior care on a local, state, and national level.
Barbara is survived by two daughters, Carmen Bishoff (Rod) of Dawsonville, GA, and Angel Sas (David) of Port Royal, SC; two grandsons, Terry Sas (Kam) of Summerville, SC and Matthew Lambert of Tucker, GA; and three great grandchildren, Mia and Coy Sas of Summerville, SC and Olivia Lambert of Tucker, GA; brother Steve Goodnight (Judy) of Kannapolis, NC.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 24, 2023 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Kannapolis, NC.
