Obituary for Charles Cates Sr.
Charles Cates, Sr., 73, of Dahlonega passed away Thursday April 2, 2020 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Mr. Cates was born March 22, 1947 to the late Carolton and Katherine Cates. Previously of Alpharetta, he had been a resident of Dahlonega for the past 40 years. Charles owned and operated Cates and Sons Farms in Dahlonega for many years. A great father and affectionately known as “Superman”, “Pop” and “Cowboy”, he will be missed by many. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sue Cates and a number of siblings.
Surviving are his sons and daughter in law, Charles, Jr. and Lynnzie Cates, Tony Cates and his fiancé, Tia Stanfield, all of Dahlonega; fiancé, Gail Holland and her daughter, Sylvia Tanner of Dahlonega; sisters and brothers in law, Brenda and Jeff Gustafson, Sherry and Robert Graham, Rachael Genson, Jacqueline Hare; granddaughter, Phoebe Cates; four great grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family is planning a celebration of life that will be announced at a later date.
