Obituary for George Brice Slaton

George Brice Slaton, 95, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday July 31, 2022 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born January 11, 1927 to the late Jack and Myrtie Slaton, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. George was an extremely hard-working man and was very talented at many trades. He was a skilled welder, roofer, poultry and cattle farmer. He was an avid NASCAR fan from the very beginning of the sport. Mr. Slaton was a U. S. Navy veteran of WW II where he served on the USS Yorktown. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and had enjoyed attending Camp Meeting at Lumpkin Campground since his childhood. George leaves behind many friends and loved his family and grandchildren most of all. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Aline Thurmond Slaton and 15 siblings.
Surviving are his wife, Colleen Pendley Slaton, Dawsonville; children, Philip and Dell O’Shields, Joe Hill, Carolyn and Reggie Stowers, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Kelly and Adam Pruett, Dawsonville, Kassie and T. J. Byrd, Dawsonville, Leah Stowers, Cumming, Seth and Becca Stowers, Dawsonville; great grandchildren, Khloe, Parker, Blaine, Kate and Slaton; sisters in law, Dorothy Singleton, Dawsonville, Naomi Baldwin, Ballground, Brenda Pendley, Dawsonville; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tommy Panter, Rev. Dennis Bottoms and Rev. Tyler Goode will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dawsonville City Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
