Obituary for Herbert Wayne Glassman Jr.

Herbert (affectionately known as Herb) Glassman passed away after an extended illness on Friday, December 24, 2021.
Herb was born on April 25, 1933 in South Bend Indiana. He resided in Dawsonville, Georgia and was a member of The LDS Church.
In September of 1951, Herb enlisted in the United States Navy. After completing all basic training, he served on an Aircraft Carrier as an air craft mechanic. He later trained for the Helicopter Recovery crew. During his time in the Navy his awards included the Korea Service Medal, United Nations Medal, Navy Occupation (European Clasp), National Defense Service Medal, China Service Medal and The Purple Heart for Military Merit. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy in September of 1959.
In the mid seventies Herb moved his family to Dawsonville where he remained until his death.
Herb went on to start a new career upon his move to Dawsonville at Georgia Farm Bureau where he retired.
Herb was also very active in Boy Scouts of America for many years where he traveled to numerous Scout Jamboree’s all over the country. His greatest joy was watching his son Tre’ become an Eagle Scout.
Herb was preceded in death by his wife of nineteen years Marlene Moyer Glassman, brother Graham Glassman and brother Arthur Glassman.
Herb is survived by his sister Frances Glassman of Canton Georgia, son Tre’ Glassman and daughter-in-law Victoria Glassman of Dawsonville, grandsons Jason Lewis and his wife Ashley Lewis of Ball Ground Georgia and Josh Lewis and his wife Stacey Lewis of Milton Georgia.
The family will receive friends at Bearden Funeral Home in Dawsonville on Thursday, December 30, 2021. Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00 with a memorial service to follow in the chapel at 2:00 p.m.
