Obituary for James "Don" Shelton
James “Don” Shelton, 71, of Cumming passed away Tuesday January 18, 2022 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born January 24, 1950 and raised in Chamblee, Don was a 1968 graduate of Sequoyah High School. He had been a resident of Cumming for almost 40 years. Don was a proud veteran of both the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army who served during Vietnam. Following his military service, Don spent many years in the HVAC and Telecommunications industries until his retirement. A devoted and loving husband and father, he was affectionately known as “Pops” by his grandchildren who were his world. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Katie Shelton; son, James “Donny” Shelton; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sue and Jim Meadows.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, JoAnn House Shelton of Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Jeff Harwood of Cumming; grandchildren, Andrew Shelton, Hudson Harwood, Cayden Harwood; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Jackie Meadows; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Pam and James “Easy” Eller; special nephew, Stephen and Cassie Meadows; other relatives.
The family is planning private memorial services.
