Obituary for Jennifer David

It with much sadness that the family of Jennifer David announce the loss of our beloved ‘Jennie’, the oldest daughter of the George & Marie David family on Friday, February 4, 2022. Jennie was born in Macon, Mississippi on September 26th, 1952, daughter of Marie Elinor Alston (David) and David Cresswell Carpenter, Jr.. She was adopted at a young age by our ‘Daddy’ and spent the rest of her life as a vibrant and giving daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend.
Through our parent’s love, Jennie became our sister and their first of five daughters, but through the trials of her life, Jennie became the strongest one of all of us, by far. From birth, Jennie was afflicted with the rare Von Recklinghausen’s disease (aka Neurofibromatosis) but, thankfully, she did not suffer from the more benign but painful and ‘advancing’ symptoms of this disease until the last few decades of her life. Tragically, much more serious symptoms afflicted both her beautiful daughter, Erica, and her playful son, Keith, who died at the respective young ages of just three and 30 years old. In addition, as a very young mother, Jennie gave away a child born before Erica and Keith when she was only 17, whom she never met, but was able to build a long-distance relationship with before he, unfortunately, also pre-deceased her.
In spite of such tragedy in her life, Jennie learned to find the strength to endure, faith in God’s plan for her life, and to love hard. She LOVED her children and fought to give them the best quality of life through all of their medical battles… she LOVED our parents - especially our doting Daddy, who gave her his name and always treated her as his own daughter…. she LOVED her sisters, Dana, Claire, Melanie, and Dorian -and her brother, Cress… she LOVED her adopted aunt, Deborah David Becotte and the fond times they shared as ‘same aged’ children… she LOVED her dear friends and helpful room-mates, Ricky and Gary - and her other close friends, ‘Peanut’, Lorraine, Kim, Alicia, and Michelle … she LOVED her pets, especially Jen Jen, Banjo, Oscar, Tucker, Sammy, and Snafu …. And she loved the friends she made at Foothills Personal Care Home, where, on two occasions, Glenda Weaver and her staff took care of Jennie and gave her some of the best months of her most recent years.
Jennie’s other life-long ‘loves’ were nature’s peace and beauty, and (like our Mom), quilting, decorating, cooking and entertaining, where her innate creativity shined. During the last decade of her life, Jennie also taught herself to paint, bringing new meaning to her life and a new creative outlet that gave her much joy. Now the walls of Jennie’s home and the homes of her friends and family are adorned with these amazing ‘self-taught’ paintings, bringing an ongoing remembrance of Jennie to all of us.
Jennie is survived by: Her sisters and brothers-in-law of Dahlonega: Dana and Ben LaChance, Claire and Garry Sharp, and Melanie Nelson; Her brother, Cresswell David Carpenter III and his wife Jean, of Duluth, Ga; Her 7 nieces and nephews: Chapin LaChance (Meghan) of Breckenridge, Co; Naomi Childs (Jason) and John Macbeth (Lauren) of Athens, Ga; Helen Cartledge of Gainesville, Ga.; George Cartledge of Dahlonega; Taylor Hulsey of Asheville, NC; and Mayson Northern (Louie) of Atlanta, Ga – who gave her 8 amazing great-nieces/nephews; Her paternal Aunt and Uncle, Deborah Becotte (Juan/Bubba) of Tifton, Ga. and Doug David (Susan) of Ellijay, Ga., and their six children; and the children of her mother’s seven brothers and sisters
Jennie is pre-deceased by her daughter, Erica Danielle Helton of Gainesville, Ga.; Her son, William Keith Pounds and baby sister, Dorian Elise David, of Dahlonega; Her parents, George and Marie David, and husband, William (Bill) Pounds, of Dawsonville, Ga.; Her father, Cresswell David Carpenter, Jr. and her maternal grandfather and grandmother, Marion Edward Alston and Alva Johnston Alston, of Macon, Miss.; Her maternal aunts and uncles, Buddy, Edith Anne, Charles, Sara and Hilman, who lived throughout the U.S.; Her paternal grandmother, Edna A. Noblin, and paternal Aunt, Nancy Noblin, both of Atlanta, GA.;
Jennie will be remembered as a strong, talented, and loving person who was always willing to help others in need in any way that she could. This is why all of those Jennie loved so ‘hard ‘will miss her so dearly. Her life will be celebrated in the warmer part of this Spring via an ‘outdoor’ picnic and remembrance gathering at the family’s treasured Deerleap Falls, where four of her family members were married and the ashes of her son were spread. If anyone wishes to donate to a cause that was important to Jennie, please donate to The Georgia Special Olympics which gave her son, Keith, much pride and joy. Anyone who wishes to join in the celebration of her life this spring, please leave a request to do so on Jennie’s on-line Remembrances Page at Bearden’s Funeral Home. www.beardenfuneralhome.com
