Obituary for Joseph Henry Roof
Joseph Henry Roof of Dawsonville, GA died peacefully on September 7, 2022 at the age of 75 after a long illness.
Joe was born February 13, 1947 in Berwyn, IL to the late Joseph Henry and Etta Mae (Berkovec) Roof. He lived in Dawson County since 2005 having moved from Suwanee, GA. He graduated from North Georgia College in 1970, graduating 2nd Lieutenant Army with a B.S. in Business. He was honorably discharged 1st Lieutenant Army Signal Corps after serving at Ft. Gordon. He went on to work in banking and then had a career as a Senior Engineer with Western Electric, AT&T, and Lucent. He had many hobbies over his life including breadmaking, woodworking, Ham radio, and technology.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Susan Miller Roof. They were married at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Doraville, GA in March of 1970. He is remembered by daughter, Katherine Ann Roof of Tucker, GA; siblings, Duane Roof (Sandra) of Alpharetta, GA, Susan Roof Shirley of Alpharetta, GA, Michael Roof of Flowery Branch, GA; brothers in law, Steve Miller (Jayne) of Boulder, CO, and Bill Miller (Maxine) of Bainbridge, Is., WA; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial mass will be held Friday, September 16, 2022 at 11 o’clock at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, Dawsonville, GA. Fr. Brian Higgins will officiate. His final resting place will be in Georgia National Cemetery.
