Obituary for Mahala Vaughters

Mahala Vaughters, 82, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born February 23, 1941, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Mahala retired from the Dawson County Board of Education where she served as a paraprofessional for 26 years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Sharing time with her family and working with plants and flowers were her passion. Preceding her in death were her father, Andrew Harben; mother, Audie Harben Reagan; stepfather, Fred Reagan; sister and brother-in-law, Laura Mae and Winford Burt; sister-in-law, Mildred Vaughters; and brother-in-law, Lewis Bearden.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff of Georgia Mountains Hospice for the compassionate care they provided.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Clayton Vaughters; children, Gary and Debra Vaughters, Nancy and Gary Disharoon; grandchildren, Audra and Alex Myers, Clay Disharoon, Lance and Jenny Disharoon, Lauren and Caleb Warren; great grandchildren, Grayson Myers, Jensen Disharoon, Kaylen Disharoon, Makenna Warren, Aria Warren; brother and sister-in-law, Jimmie and Bessie Harben; sister-in-law, Helen Bearden,; brother in law, Albert Vaughters; and many other relatives also survive.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 18, 2023 at 2 o’clock at Bethel Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Bottoms and Rev. Jason Hamby will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 8 and on Monday from 12 noon until 1 at the funeral home.
