Mary Joe Overstreet, 90, of Dawsonville passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday March 4, 2020.
Born on Valentine’s Day in 1930 to the late Charlie I. “Bud” and Sylvia Slaton Thompson, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. For many years she was a member of the Lady’s Auxiliary of the Upper Chattahoochee Soil and Water Conservation District and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and was an extremely devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family would like to extend their thanks to her special friend, Greg Chambers, to Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice for their care, the caregivers of Visiting Angels of Lake Lanier, and special caregivers, Terri Reece, Sheila Grizzle and Marissa Helton for all the nights they spent with her.
Surviving are her husband of 71 years, Benjamin Brinson “Ben” Overstreet; daughters and sons in law, Jo Ann and Ragin Hause, Jane and Jerry Smith, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Jeffrey and Liza Hause, Henrico, VA, Heather and Chris Albro, La Grange, KY, Ben Hause, Dawsonville, Jason and Amy Smith, Kennesaw; great grandchildren, Jacob Albro, Ryan Albro, Lily Albro, Brin Hause, Andrews Hause, Wylie Hause, Catelyn Smith, Mary Elizabeth Smith; sister in law and brother in law, Ann and Jim Neal, Milledgeville.
