Maston W. Holtzclaw, 84, of Dawsonville passed away Monday, November 15, 2021 at his residence following an extended illness.
Born September 15, 1937 in Forsyth County to the late Henry and Ella Holtzclaw, he was raised in the Coal Mountain community. He had been living in Dawson County for the past 30 years. A 1956 graduate of Forsyth County High School, he was a gifted athlete and a fan of Atlanta sports teams throughout his life. Maston was a master carpenter who was well know and had deep ties to agriculture and poultry farming in Forsyth County. For many years he owned and operated Holtzclaw Builders where he framed and built many homes in the Atlanta area. A devoted and loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he was a hard-working man and always helped those in need. He loved his family and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ dearly. A member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church, he was also preceded in death by his daughters, Jennifer H. Darnell, Julie H. Gresham; two sisters; seven brothers; the mothers of his children, Trentha N. Holtzclaw, Barbara B. Holtzclaw; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Surviving are his daughters and son in law, Robin H. Sims, Dawsonville, Melanie H. Martin, Cumming, Tammy and David Shirley, Dawsonville; sons, Shayne Holtzclaw, Dawsonville, Tracy Holtzclaw, Dawsonville; his beloved companion, Rita Black, Dawsonville; 22 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 18, 2021 at 1 o’clock at the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Horace Smithwick and Rev. Ruel Martin will officiate. Interment will follow in the Coal Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour.
