Norma's dad, Henry, was the son of William Pinkney and Sarah Ann Smith Turner Pirkle. My daddy's 2nd wife, Jamie Turner was the half-sister of Henry. William Pinkney was my grandpa Martin's 1st cousin. After daddy's 1st wife and baby, Florence and Grady Ray died in GA, daddy went to Yarnby, OK and he married Jamie in 1913. Daddy and Jamie's child, LaCleta was born in 1917,. Jamie died 6 wks. after LaCleta's birth. Sometime after the 1920 census, (I found daddy out there then,) he, LaCleta, Henry and Mrs. Pirkle came back to GA for he married mama in 1922. On mine and Curtis's trip out to Yarnby and surrounding areas, I saw the land where daddy owned lots and also where the house stood where the Pirkles lived, also the land that daddy farmed. Jamie and Mr. Pirkle are buried side-by-side at the Rosewood Cemetery in Bryan Co., Achille, OK. We visited their graves. My sister, Juanita, her middle name was Achille, of course, being named for that town. The deceased, Norma, was a dear person. We had several telephone conversations. Had stopped a couple of times to visit her on our way to the Martin-Elrod reunion. On the last several times I had tried reaching her by telephone, got no answer, was able to leave messages but never heard back. Perhaps she was not able too, may have already been too disabled. Her dad and daddy were very close. Henry, daddy and Henry's son, John, made a trip back out to Oklahoma and Texas many years ago. Norma furnished me with some info. on Daddy (cards he had mailed to Henry when daddy was in the Army) that I would have never known about had she not mailed them to me. I will always be grateful to her. If I did not live as far away in TN as I do, I would try to be at the viewing and funeral. Please, some of the family, I'm requesting that you get in touch with me. Would love to hear from any of the family. I think the son probably has my telephone number. Thanks and may God be with each member of the family in this time of sorrow.
