Obituary for Rodney Aaron Castleberry

Rodney Aaron Castleberry, 46, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Emory University Hospital following a courageous battle with COVID-19.

Rodney was born October 14, 1975 and was raised in Cumming. He had been a resident of Dawson County since 2007. Rodney grew up attending Harmony Grove Baptist Church where he was saved and was now a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Dawsonville where he had been set aside to be ordained as a Deacon, taught the Young Adult Sunday School Class and led the youth choir alongside his wife. A very talented guitarist, he had written some very inspirational songs and would play for his wife, daughters and others to sing at many churches. He served many years as the treasurer for Chestatee Masonic Lodge #102 F & AM.
Rodney was the definition of a simple, strong, humble, hard-working, Christian man and was an example to many. He always put everyone ahead of himself and was beloved by everyone who knew him. Over the years he was employed at Forsyth County Parks and Recreation, Bearden Funeral Home where he was still on the staff, and currently operated his family’s farm. Rodney enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, and especially loved fishing. He was extremely talented and always willing to help anyone build or fix anything. Rodney was a true friend and very dedicated to his family, especially his girls who he loved so very much.

Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Jessica Holbrook Castleberry; daughters, Maddie Castleberry, Emma Kate Castleberry, all of Dawsonville; parents, Lanier and Joyce Castleberry, Cumming; brothers, Bo Castleberry, Cumming, Emory Castleberry, Cumming; mother in law and father in law, Deborah and Max Wehunt, Dawsonville; brothers in law and sisters in law, Jonathan and Stacey Holbrook, Cumming, Jason and April Holbrook, Cumming, Jory and Angie Holbrook, Cumming; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

A private interment service will be held in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Andy Wallace and Rev. Russell Burt will officiate.

A celebration of Rodney’s life will be held Monday, March 21, 2022 at 4 p.m. at the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dennis Bottoms, Rev. Todd Skinner, Rev. Jason Hamby, and Rev. Stephen Davis will officiate.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
