William (Billy) Van Meter Barrett, born March 22, 1991, passed September 18, 2020.

Billy lived in Colorado until moving to Georgia in 1995. A proud ‘Southern Country Boy’, he was raised in western Dawson County as a young Tom Sawyer. His youth was spent hiking, fishing, playing in the creek and jumping in the river off the rope swing with his Huckleberry Finn best friend Matt.

Billy was an accomplished musician, having learned piano at a young age, the trombone in Dawson County High School Band, and especially enjoyed playing the guitar and writing songs. His knowledge of history was extensive. He could identify nearly every military and commercial airplane and automobile model. He graduated from Dawson County High School in 2009.

Billy was given high praise for his work ethic by Advanced Disposal, Red Oak Recycling and Waste Pro. He was described as smart, a quick learner and a phenomenal worker. He worked many 60 hour weeks for years without vacations to support his family. His children meant the world to him.

Billy was predeceased by his infant daughter Delilah Lynne Barrett. He is survived by his son Waylon D. Lonzo Barrett, daughter Kaeley Mae Barrett of Cumming, his mother Tara Lynne Van Meter of Goffstown NH, father William Douglas Barrett of Alpharetta, sister Jennifer Foley of Goffstown NH, brothers Dwayne Mason of Manassas VA, Martin Mason of Yelm WA, and Peter Mason of Salisbury NH.
Billy is also survived by his birth family in Olympia, WA, birthmother Diane Hall, birthfather Steve Ketchum, sisters Brittany Hunter and Layla Ketchum, brother Kyron Ketchum, grandmother Sharon Chastain and grandfather Steve Ketchum who held him dear. He is also survived by his children’s mother Kristen Brown and other family members and close friends that will miss him greatly as we say goodbye to a son, father, brother and friend.

A visitation will be held Tuesday Sept 22 5:30-7:30 PM at Bearden Funeral Home in Dawsonville.
Services will be held Wednesday Sept 23 at 2 PM at Bearden Funeral Home in Dawsonville followed by burial at Sawnee View Gardens in Cumming.

Our hearts are heavy as we have learned about the untimely death of Billy. He was a neighbor of ours for a number of years and it only seems like yesterday that he would come up and swim in our swimming hole in the creek and ride his bike up our driveway just to pay a visit. We were present at his baptism and recall the meaningful service. Although we lost contact when he moved, we remember him fondly as a respectful, intelligent and pleasant child and are so sad at his untimely death. What a beautiful family he left behind.
Love and blessings,

Oh, Billy, I was there when your Mom and Dad picked you up at the hospital. We were so excited to meet you and welcome you to the family. We didn’t see you often on opposite sides of the country, but we enjoyed your company every time we were together. Your Dad loved you unconditionally and tried his best to raise you in the Barrett tradition. We will miss you. May you Rest In Peace. Love, Aunt Sue

Sweet Billy, You will always be remembered as an adventurous young man, full of life, with a huge heart, beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor. You loved deeply and were fiercely loyal to your family. We know you are at peace now, and holding Delilah in your arms. Oh the years of memories in Dawsonville as you and the boys were growing up will be treasured forever in our hearts .. We love you. We'll see you again sweetie in HIS time.
Doug, Tara and family, We are so, so sorry. Our hearts break with yours. Love, Gabi, Eric, Allison & family, Andrew, Anthony & Gianna
