Obituary for William (Billy) Van Meter Barrett

William (Billy) Van Meter Barrett, born March 22, 1991, passed September 18, 2020.

Billy lived in Colorado until moving to Georgia in 1995. A proud ‘Southern Country Boy’, he was raised in western Dawson County as a young Tom Sawyer. His youth was spent hiking, fishing, playing in the creek and jumping in the river off the rope swing with his Huckleberry Finn best friend Matt.

Billy was an accomplished musician, having learned piano at a young age, the trombone in Dawson County High School Band, and especially enjoyed playing the guitar and writing songs. His knowledge of history was extensive. He could identify nearly every military and commercial airplane and automobile model. He graduated from Dawson County High School in 2009.

Billy was given high praise for his work ethic by Advanced Disposal, Red Oak Recycling and Waste Pro. He was described as smart, a quick learner and a phenomenal worker. He worked many 60 hour weeks for years without vacations to support his family. His children meant the world to him.

Billy was predeceased by his infant daughter Delilah Lynne Barrett. He is survived by his son Waylon D. Lonzo Barrett, daughter Kaeley Mae Barrett of Cumming, his mother Tara Lynne Van Meter of Goffstown NH, father William Douglas Barrett of Alpharetta, sister Jennifer Foley of Goffstown NH, brothers Dwayne Mason of Manassas VA, and Peter Mason of Salisbury NH.
Billy is also survived by his birth family in Olympia, WA, birthmother Diane Hall, birthfather Steve Ketchum, sisters Brittany Hunter and Layla Ketchum, brother Kyron Ketchum, grandmother Sharon Chastain and grandfather Steve Ketchum who held him dear. He is also survived by his children’s mother Kristen Brown and other family members and close friends that will miss him greatly as we say goodbye to a son, father, brother and friend.

A visitation will be held Tuesday Sept 22 5:30-7:30 PM at Bearden Funeral Home in Dawsonville.
Services will be held Wednesday Sept 23 at 2 PM at Bearden Funeral Home in Dawsonville followed by burial at Sawnee View Gardens in Cumming.
